OXbow Room reveal
september 17, 2020
Oh - how I love to design a kids room! There is something so fun about the challenge to come up with a room that is unique and fitting to a little persons personality, but doing it in such a way that allows them to add their own flare. Also, if you have followed along for awhile, you have probably noticed that we do a lot of mature kids' spaces. These homes are a big investment and although its fun to add a touch of whimsy - we try to keep the big components of the space pretty timeless and transitional. Who knows how much longer they're going to be into unicorns, #amiright? 😉
It's no doubt the real star of this show is the hanging chair! The girls got their window seats and we couldn't just give him any old chair to curl up and read... it had to be fun. (and it is - I definitely tested it out (also comfy!))
There is also a bonus hidden closet complete with an RFID lock card. Perfect for a nerf-gun storage and feeling like a secret agent. Also perfect for mom + dad to take away as a lost privilege after shooting his sisters 😉 We like to call that a win-win.
With this room, we kept the big parts pretty simple. Light gray walls, neutral furniture, and then added a pop of color in the bedding and accessories. The window pane plaid adds a subtle pop of pattern and color.
This boy was lucky enough to not only have his own room, but also a complete en-suite bath! We pulled the shiplap in the bedroom into his bathroom to add a little cohesion. With some mid-mod pendants and a natural wood mirror, this bath is sure to grow with him.
Clipped ceilings, millwork details, tons of natural light, and classic finishes... I mean Hidden Nerf gun closet with secret lock, hanging chair, and away from his sisters - what more could a kid ask for?
